88 days ago, when I started this godforsaken 100 Songs project with Tove Lo‘s Moments, I said that my favourite song of hers was a toss-up between that track and one other. Well, here it is.
A sparkling, euphoric pop gem about the inevitable suffering that comes with falling in love, True Disaster was released three years ago and after a few billion plays I still haven’t remotely tired of it. The enormous synths, the addictive hook, the breathless way she delivers “I’m gonna get hurt” in the middle-8…
Pop songs about falling for someone who might not give you a smooth ride are obviously very common, but when they’re right, Christ they’re good. This one is just magic.
I’ll be writing about my favourite 100 pop songs of the decade; one a day for the last 100 days of 2019. They’re in no particular order, except the Top 10 – which will (obviously) come in late December.
