A song I loved so much I had it as my ALARM TONE in the summer of 2013, Heart Attack finally…. dammit FINALLY!…. gave Demi Lovato some breakthrough success in the UK, after she only just grazed the Top 40 with La La Land, This Is Me and Skyscraper in previous years (the latter would finally hit the Top 10 thanks to X Factor a few months later).
Full of drama, big vocals and a blockbuster of a middle-8, the whole thing comes to a spectacular head at the 3:02 mark when she bursts into the final chorus with a glass-shattering, adrenaline-pumping, eardrum-severing “I think I’d have a heart attAAAAAYAAAAYAYAYAYAAACK!!!”. From an album chock-full of hits and bops, this was the hittiest, boppiest slam-dunk of them all.
I’ll be writing about my favourite 100 pop songs of the decade; one a day for the last 100 days of 2019. They’re in no particular order, except the Top 10 – which will (obviously) come in late December.
