After a bit of a dud week last week, there’s SALVATION today.
Plenty to get excited about singles-wise – starting with Raye, back with a summer-ready belter of a song called Call On Me. Lately she’s (mostly) been serving up bangers with her collaborations and sticking with semi-sad midtempos when it comes to her individual work, but she’s flipping the script here; and I hope it’s a humungous hit.
Make! Her! A! Goddamn! Megastar!
Next up, Jessie J is back – and together with Ryan Tedder, she’s put together a right good song! I Want Love has fantastic artwork, too. After a few years in the wilderness, is she about to serve up a killer era? I think I’m here for it! Last time I was this excited by her was when I listened to Wild about 45958 times in a row back in 2012.
After leaking then appearing then disappearing yesterday, Lorde‘s Solar Power is finally out in the open for good. She’s back with Jack Antonoff for an extremely good, hazy-in-the-sunshine song that gets more gorgeous with every spin.
Elsewhere, Marina launches her new album (also out today) with Venus Fly Trap, which I think is my favourite song from the era so far. Kylie Minogue has covered Lady Gaga‘s Marry The Night (!!!!!!!!) for the Born This Way re-issue. Ava Max has put out another serviceable bop in EveryTime I Cry. And The Mamas are having a normal one: they’ve covered Itsy Bitsy Teenie Weenie Yellow Polka Dot Bikini. Sure!
