Kylie Minogue‘s record label exec has been chatting about the huge success of the Disco era.
The album was released last November and has so far sold just under 122,000 copies in the UK alone, and more importantly it was voted Album of the Year at Electric Angels’ Golden Bop Awards in December.
Speaking to Music Week, Alistair Norbury of BMG said: “For Kylie, the worldwide streams on this album are at about three times the rate of the previous record, Golden.
“So last year was about, ‘Can you grow an artist to the next level?’ After the huge success we had with Kylie and Golden, and then with the best-of [2019’s Step Back In Time], to continue that trajectory upwards was terrific.”
It’s not that Golden or Step Back In Time underperformed – quite the opposite. But they’re all parts of Kylie’s recent magnificent upward trajectory.
Norbury continued: “Being bold, going to Nashville and making the Golden album was exactly the right thing to do.
“And then in 2019, playing Glastonbury and releasing the greatest hits to have a second No.1 [with this particular label]…
“The following year, it was about not leaving it too long. The lockdown almost forced her hand to crack on and do something in that time.”
He also promised the era will roll on throughout 2021, with plenty more to come.
Getting stronger and stronger and bigger and bigger with every album, after multiple decades in the industry? When will your faves?!!?!
Kylie’s current single is Real Groove and if you haven’t heard this extremely gay remix, I suggest you do so now.
