It looks like Ava Max is about to impact the UK Top 20 with the absolute monster that is My Head & My Heart.
The song – which has an alternate music video starring Bimini Bon Boulash – has been steadily on the rise for the last couple of months, and was at No17 in yesterday’s Official Charts First Look.
If it maintains its current momentum, it’ll outpace the No19 peak achieved by Kings And Queens last year. And given that it’s just been added to the Radio 1 A-list, is in the Top 10 on iTunes and has been moving in the right direction on the Spotify chart; I wouldn’t be surprised if it also outdoes the No13 heights achieved by So Am I in 2019.
This is all essentially a long-winded way of saying that it could become her second Top 10 single in this country. Which isn’t bad going considering it’s nearly four months old.
There’s a lot of fierce debate, isn’t there, over whether Ava is serving reliable comfort-bops or derivative knock-offs – but wherever you stand on the matter, I hope we can all agree that My Head & My Heart is a complete belter.
And actually I have veeery minor regrets about not putting it in my 2020 year-end list.
