Drag Race UK: UK Hun is No1 (and No57) on iTunes

RuPaul’s Drag Race UK aired this year’s pop group challenge last night – and one recording has shot to No1 on iTunes.

Obviously the iTunes chart accounts for little in terms of actual sales these days, but it’s still a real thrill to see an absolute bop by a hastily-assembled group called the United Kingdolls sail to the summit – especially when new stuff by Dua Lipa, Taylor Swift, P!nk and Rita Ora has also just been released.

(FWIW, Taylor’s new Love Story is roaring up the list and will probably overtake it very soon but the POINT STANDS!).

UK Hun is the Break Up Bye Bye of 2020 – and as Laurence Cheney, Tayce, Bimini Bon Boulash and A’Whora gave what was very comfortably the superior performance, they have been rewarded accordingly with the viewers’ spending money.

As for the Bananadrama version – starring Joe Black, Tia Kofi, Sister Sister and Ellie Diamond – that one’s way down at No57 at time of writing (incidentally a chart position that always reminds me of Hoxton Heroes – camp!).

Will one or both of those versions go on to impact the actual UK charts this time next week?! We’ll have to wait and see. I’d bet a firm ‘no’ on Bananadrama, but given that the Frock Destroyers made it to No35 in 2019, I wonder if the United Kingdolls can do similarly well.

The first full day’s worth of Spotify data won’t be available until tomorrow, so we can geek out over those numbers then.

In the meantime, bing bang bong ladies!
