Olivia Rodrigo roars to No1 with huuuuge numbers

Mad that on Sunday the Official Charts First Look was indicating another close fight between Little Mix and Ed Sheeran; but fast forward five days and Olivia Rodrigo has outdone the pair of them by a margin of more than 3:1.

Drivers License completes a remarkable debut week with just shy of 95,000 chart sales – of which all but ~4k are from streams.

She is, Music Week notes, the youngest solo female to top the chart since Lorde almost eight years ago; and the Official Charts Company confirms that on Tuesday she achieved the highest day of streaming for any song ever in this country.

All that excitement nudges Little Mix’s Sweet Melody down to No2 and Ed Sheeran’s Afterglow to No3; while the former’s Nathan Dawe collab No Time For Tears lifts slightly to No22 – not quite the Top 20 placement it was projected to achieve, but maybe today’s music video release will rectify that next week.

Zara Larsson’s Talk About Love sadly does not bother the Top 100 (yet!!!), while Zayn‘s Vibez arrives at No50 – already his best placement since Let Me hit No20 back in 2018. See the whole singles list here.

Over on the album chart, Barry Gibb and Passenger occupy the Top 2, knocking Taylor Swift down to No3. Jazmine Sullivan’s excellent Heaux Tales bows at No74 – which is, obviously, wayyyy too low; but it is her first ever appearance on the UK bestseller list. Full rundown here.
