Olivia Rodrigo really is having one hell of a week.
Honestly, I don’t think I was reaaaaally aware of her this time last week. Now it feels like she’s one of the biggest stars in the world.
Her new track Drivers License has turbo-charged past Little Mix‘s incumbent Sweet Melody and now has an extremely easy route to No1 on Friday. In fact, it’s outdoing the second-best single of 2020 by a margin of more than 2:1.
Music Week’s latest midweek figures put it at just under 45,000 combined sales for the week to date – a considerable uplift on the <12,000 it had at this point on Monday (granted, Monday’s data was lacking some of Sunday’s streaming figures; but similarly today’s numbers are missing yesterday’s).
Sweet Melody, meanwhile, is hovering around the 20k mark, just over 1k ahead of Ed Sheeran’s Afterglow. And no, there’s no sign of Zara or Zayn in the Top 40 🙁
Over on the album chart, Barry Gibb’s a lock for the No1, with Passenger at No2, Taylor Swift at No3, Little Mix at No4 and Harry Styles at No5. The final charts will, as ever, be revealed on Friday night.
