Little Mix’s Sweet Melody extends midweek lead – and now Confetti wants No1 too

Well, at least Little Mix are having a very good start to 2021.

The race for this week’s No1 single – which on Sunday night saw less than 2,000 copies separating the Top 5 – is still pretty close, but Sweet Melody has extended its lead.

Music Week reports that it’s now just over 4,000 copies ahead of Ed Sheeran’s Afterglow, while CJ follows in third place, Justin Bieber has roared forward to fourth (he was just outside the Top 10 on Sunday, so keep an eye on his momentum), and Shane Codd is in fifth.

It’s not just the singles market that Little Mix are acing: what was initially a tight fight between Taylor Swift and Harry Styles for this week’s No1 album is now a tight fight between Taylor Swift, Harry Styles and the quartet-or-trio-depending-on-how-you-refer-to-them-now-in-this-specific-context.

The sales are tiny, though: Taylor leads Little Mix and Harry but all three have sold less than 5k each. But hey, it’s the first week of January and there aren’t any big new releases to speak of, so there you have it.

While both the singles and albums races are still close enough to go either way for Little Mix, we are looking at a situation in which they could (COULD!!!!) pull off the chart double on Friday. Imagine!

Keep fucking streaming, lads!
