Last week Dua and Little Mix allowed us to dance through the hellfire. This week… it gives me no pleasure to announce we are very much In Our Feelings.

Here are the songs being added to my rolling 2020 playlist as we limp into Q2. Follow said playlist on Spotify here.

Take Yourself Home – Troye Sivan

There seems to be a 50/50 split between gays who think Troye can do no wrong, and gays who think he is a liiiil’ bit overhyped. Well, maybe a 45/45/10 split; the 10 being my own camp: the one that thinks he falls somewhere in the middle. His stuff is often extremely low-energy – and that’s not a bad thing (when he gets it right, consider the heart broken!), but it does mean he has to try a bit harder to avoid becoming a bit dull and repetitive.

On Take Yourself Home, he succeeds: described by the artist himself as a “pep talk with yourself and the place you’re from”, it’s lyrically accomplished (taking on new meaning in The Current Climate) and just really, really slick. The outro was a good call, too. A win!

Give Me A Reason – Dive In

‘Tbh’ I’d never heard of this lot before, but GMAR was on the PopJustice NMF playlist, which I was listening to in the queue for Tesco the other day – and this has just really lingered with me. When we’re allowed to properly drive to places other than the supermarket again, I imagine this will be perfect. Lovely stuff.

Lonely – Violet Skies

This is absolutely not the time to start stanning an outright sadballad, is it, and yet here I am! Like a clown! Living for that gorgeous piano, those octave-jumping vocals, those raw lyrics! I just can’t help myself! ??????????

I’ll Wait – Kygo & Sasha Sloan

Just one week on from Kygo x Zara Larsson, this is a totally different ballgame already: if Like It Is was made for the height of sunshine, this is perfect for golden hour. And (once again!!!), if I may link back to our current global ~situation, it’s an ideal bittersweet banger to summarise being separated from anyone you love.

Chosen Family – Rina Sawayama

With her first proper album still due for release in a couple of weeks, Chosen Family only adds to the hype: an outright heartfelt ballad (told you this was a FEELINGS week!!), it’s probably not got as much replay value as e.g. XS and Comme Des Garçons, but it’s certainly another reason to count down the days to the 17th.

Missed A Spot – Dinah Jane

It’s a carefree bop! SALVATION!!!! The perfect palate-cleanser amidst all the eMoTiOnS elsewhere, this is veeeery easily among Dinah’s better solo efforts. She remains the 5H member with the quietest monthly listenership on Spotify, by some distance (440k – whereas Lauren has 2.3m, Ally 2.8m, Normani 17m, Camila 49m) – but hopefully a slick new tune like this can really start hiking her numbers up. This is her 3rd single of 2020 and it feels like she’s really onto something now.

Back To Me – Lindsay Lohan

Now, I don’t want to overhype this – it ain’t a classic. But it is a cute little earworm, isn’t it? And I’ll very happily take it!! More pls!
