X Factor All Stars has been binned for yet another spin-off idea

Well, any dreams of seeing Honey G compete with Dinah Jane off Fifth Harmony have been dashed – as X Factor: All Stars is no longer happening.

Instead, a new show called X Factor The Band will launch, doing a very Popstars: The Rivals ~thing of launching new boy and girlbands.

It’s apparently due to air early next year, meaning Little Mix’s BBC show The Search could be its direct competition – and it seems like it could be a British equivalent of Cowell’s own La Banda.

“K-Pop is ruling the world,” Simon Cowell told The Sun. “This is a show to find a band to launch UK-Pop. It’s more than winning a record contract, it’s starting a new music wave.” Ya-huh.

He went on to say that “there’s a lot of confidence back in the format” after X Factor Celebrity, which is – and I cannot stress this enough – an absolute mess. Not even an entertaining, can’t-look-away mess, like the good old days were. Just a mess.

Genuinely, Louis Walsh said that this performance “hit all the notes”. Reader, it very much didn’t.

“There is every possibility next year there could be three X Factor shows – Celebrity, All Stars and another group show,” Cowell added. “The important thing about why ITV is supporting us is that it’s the young people watching us. The 16 to 34 viewership on X Factor Celebrity is enormous, even bigger than Love Island.”

3.5 million people watched the first live show; the lowest number ever for a live episode of the brand.

Well, I’ve gotta say, as a big (former???) X Factor stan, I was super excited for All Stars; but given how many people had – understandably! – ruled themselves out, and given how bad the Celebrity version is, this is probably for the best.
