Can you BELIEVE this song will soon be THREE CALENDAR YEARS of age? And still Sigrid feels like a peppy up-and-comer! That’s #thecurrentpoplandscape for you.
Sucker Punch and Plot Twist came close, but Don’t Kill My Vibe remains her finest moment. As debuts go, it’s a belter of a mission statement; confident, inventive, and acing what good pop does best: making done-a-million-times lyrical themes sound fresh and exciting again.
Sigrid’s debut album finally came out earlier this year and despite a few wobbles en route to its release, I do think it deserved more ongoing love than it got. I hope there’s plenty more to come from her in the next decade.
- I’ll be writing about my favourite 100 pop songs of the decade; one a day for the last 100 days of 2019. They’re in no particular order, except the Top 10 – which will (obviously) come in late December.
