Zara Larsson on new album delays: ‘Just f**king release it’

Zara Larsson has opened up on her go-get-’em attitude towards the release of her long-delayed third studio album (well, second international studio album) Poster Girl, which finally arrives in a few weeks.

Its lead single Ruin My Life came out way back in 2018, and (brilliant) follow-up singles such as All The Time and Don’t Worry ‘Bout Me have not made it onto the final tracklisting.

Now, the final product is finally on its way in March – and in a new interview with NME, Zara explained that she eventually reached the point where she wanted to “just fucking release it”.

“You know, I don’t think I will ever feel like the timing is right,” she admitted. “Maybe it’s because I feel under pressure or I’m scared of failing – whatever that is.”

Later in the chat, she added: “At this point I just want people to hear my new music and I want to stop being so scared of how it’s going to go.

“Because honestly, what could go wrong? That I sell one album? If that happens, I’ll make another one – that’s how I see it now. And that’s how I’ve been seeing it the whole time I was growing up in this industry.

“But because my first [global] album was So Good – literally! – I felt pressured, I really did.

“And then eventually, I was like, ‘Nah, you can’t keep going on like this because the longer you wait to release this album, the less people are gonna care anyways. So just fucking release it because it’s great, it’s fun and it’s my form of escapism.”

Zara had previously opened up on her influences for this era – including fellow Swedish legends such as ABBA – as she promised an album that is very much proud to be pop.

Poster Girl is out on March 5.
