Years & Years is now an Olly Alexander solo project

It’s the end of an era over at Years and Years HQ: Mikey Goldsworthy and Emre Türkmen are stepping back from the group after a decade together.

A statement on the group’s social feeds reveals that the new album is a solo Olly Alexander endeavour, though Mikey will remain part of the “family” and be part of the live band.

Emre, meanwhile, is off to focus on being a writer and producer.

It reads: “This upcoming new album has been an olly endeavour and we’ve decided that Years & Years will continue as an Olly solo project.

“The three of us are still good friends.”

It adds that the new era officially begins this spring with the arrival of new music – which Olly has previously said will be highly danceable.

Marketing-wise, Olly has always been front-and-centre, but it’ll be interesting to hear the difference in the material on the new record. I’m extremely excited to hear it, in any case.
