We could have new Years & Years music in months & months

Olly Alexander has given an update on the progress of new Years & Years music – saying it shouldn’t be too long before it’s ready to go.

Speaking on Capital FM yesterday, he said there are “a lot of songs” being put together for the follow-up to 2018’s excellent Palo Santo; and the only problem is that hardly any of them are actually finished yet.

“I’ve got a lot of songs but have finished only a couple, but lots are close to being finished,” he said.

On a release timeline, he teased: “It’s gonna be less than years. It’s gonna be months.”

The It’s A Sin heartbreaker also echoed what he’s previously said about the tone of this new era, saying the vibe is FUN and DANCING.

“Uptempo, we’re dancing, we’re feeling good, basically,” he said.

“I took a lot of inspiration from the feel of 80s dance music and the iconic dancefloor moments from that era, the Pet Shop Boys and everything… and trying to reinterpret it for today.

“The whole fact I was in a pandemic lockdown not able to go out dancing, I was like, ‘well let’s make dance music and make it feel really, really fun’ – so thats the vibe.”

As Cheryl once said to Treyc Cohen, whenever you’re ready.
