Well I do think my favourite new song of the week is the Zara Larsson album track that was unleashed a few days ago – but as I’m keeping this thing to singles only wherever possible, the path is clear for the new one from Maisie Peters to take my top spot instead.
She’s been putting out Gabrielle Aplin-adjacent balladry for a few years now, but John Hughes Movie injects a shot of euphoric, LOUD adrenaline right into the chorus zone; and though we should all be a bit wary of instrumental-drops-instead-of-actual-choruses by this point, it just really goes off! I don’t know what else to tell ya.
Elsewhere, Joel Corry and RAYE deliver another banger with Bed, assisted by David Guetta; the new Steps and Michelle Visage version of Heartbreak In This City is solid enough to give all the 30+ gays everything they need; and Torine – who became a real breakout below-radar fave of mine in 2020 – is back with what could be the Lockdown 3 anthem: Bored.
There’s also great new song from Florrie, Chloe x Halle keeping up their recent hot streak with the expanded edition of their Ungodly Hour album, and…. of course… Agatha All Along.
