New Music Friday: Laura Mvula! Aly & AJ! Una Healy! And more!

Remember a few years ago when Laura Mvula revealed she’d been dropped by her record label? Well, she’s back now with a new single via Atlantic Records and, it seems, the last laugh.

Safe House is my early fave of the week; written and produced by Mvula with Dann Hume. It’s GORGEOUS. Video’s stunning too:

Also this week, the Zara Larsson album is the big new attraction but I’m keeping this to singles only – so let’s give Justin Bieber his dues for releasing another great single in the form of Hold On, and also – on the subject of blokes – to Nick Jonas for releasing the very decent This Is Heaven.

Elsewhere, Aly & AJ are back with the dusk-friendly Pretty Places; I just heard Mette‘s first single Petrified on the PopJustice NMF playlist and it properly slaps; the new girl in red song Serotonin is a proper makes-you-sit-up-and-pay-attention triumph; Bebe Rexha is going Full Banger with Sacrifice; and Una Healy – formerly of The Saturdays, of course – has put out a really likeable new grown-up-pop tune in Swear It All Again.

Finally, Selena Gomez has jumped on the playlist-friendly new one from DJ Snake: Selfish Love is a perfectly serviceable (multi-lingual!) energetic bop with a nice instrumental bit.
