It’s been reaaaal frustrating watching Katy Perry’s Never Really Over hover just outside the UK Top 10 since its release, but she’s already talking about the next track she plans to ~drop, and it goes by the name of Harleys In Hawaii.
She was seen shooting a video on a motorbike in – you guessed it! – Hawaii recently, so presumably the release is imminent; though all she told radio DJ Zach Sang was that it will come “at some point”.
Quoth she:
“To be on the back of a motorcycle in Hawaii with the air blowing on your face, it’s so beautiful. I can remember specifically where I was; the street corner I was on in Oahu, whispering to Orlando and saying ‘I’m going to write a song called Harleys in Hawaii’. And I did. That’s something that will come at some point.”
Never Really Over hasn’t really had that much of an all-guns-blazing promo campaign, when you think about it: considering how much, say, Taylor Swift was wheeling out Me! over the spring, NRO hasn’t been performed live at all (that I can tell??), so – unless there are any plans to rectify that in the coming weeks and really chase that Song of the Summer title that Spotify predicted she’d get – I suppose the coast is clear to move on to the next single.
Katy’s also said she doesn’t have any specific plans for an album any time soon – which makes sense, given the disappointment of the Witness era – so it’s unclear if Never Really Over and Harleys In Hawaii are part of a specific new ~era~, but imagine if this new one was amazing? Imagine if she was 2 for 2 from an album campaign for the first time since One Of The Boys? Imagine if it was a piping hot 11/10 masterpiece? Imagine if it was the new Teenage Dream??
It goes without saying, I would v much like to see it.
