Here come the Golden Bop Awards

Presenting Electric Angels’ first ever, extremely extra Golden Bop Awards.

Across 26… shall we say ‘unique’ categories, we’ll pay homage to the stellar pop music that has kept us all going in what has truly been a godawful year. And! Raise some much-needed money for the LGBTQ+ homelessness charity, akt [the Albert Kennedy Trust].

The awards will all be decided by a public vote – and you can see who’s nominated for what and pick your winners from Thursday, December 10 at about 2pm. Ish.

For all bar one of the categories, the vote will close at 11am on Tuesday, December 22; and the results will be revealed as part of a special show on Electric Angels’ radio station on the morning of Christmas Eve.

The exception of course is the previously-announced Single Of The Year; the vote for which is already open. Those results will be revealed in a Top 40 countdown format on Monday, December 28; and the vote shuts at midday on December 27. Head here if you haven’t voted already.

The Golden Bop Awards are just a bit of fun, but they are fundraising for akt – and with the festive season approaching, and amid an ongoing brutal pandemic, their services are needed now more than ever. Listeners who tune in on December 24 will be urged to give anything they can, but if you want to, you can donate to our JustGiving appeal right now here.

akt said: “As Covid restrictions remain across the UK, akt has continued to see a high volume of young people needing support, either because they’re homeless or because their living situation at home is becoming increasingly volatile.

“We’ve seen a 118% increase in new referrals from April – August this year, compared to the same period last year. akt are dedicated to being there for these young people, offering national virtual support via Live web chat, email, and telephone.”

Check back tomorrow for the full list of nominations, and join us on the radio for a whole load of festive fun from Monday 21-Thursday 24 December.
