The upcoming GLAAD Media Awards will feature a special Glee reunion, it has been announced – marking the 10th anniversary of Santana coming out on the show; a historic moment for queer Latina representation.
The anniversary is of course all the more poignant because Santana was played by Naya Rivera, who died last year.
According to Variety, the stars who’ll be featuring are Jacob Artist, Chris Colfer, Darren Criss, Vanessa Lengies, Jane Lynch, Kevin McHale, Heather Morris, Matthew Morrison, Alex Newell, Amber Riley, Harry Shum Jr., Becca Tobin and Jenna Ushkowitz.
The segment will be introduced by Demi Lovato, who played a girlfriend of Santana’s.
Among those who are missing from the list is Lea Michele: it’s unknown why she won’t be there, but it’s worth noting that she came under fire in 2020 for allegations of racist and extremely arrogant behaviour on set. Former co-star Samantha Ware said Michele made her life “a living hell”, while Morris said: “Was she unpleasant to work with? Very much so.”
Santana came out in the seventh episode of season three, in case you feel like re-watching.
The GLAAD Media Awards take place on April 8.
