Eurovision 2020’s would-be champion has out-peaked the last few *actual* winners in the UK chart

Of course we’ll never know who would have won the Eurovision Song Contest 2020 had it taken place as planned, but all signs certainly pointed towards Iceland scooping their first ever victory with Daði Freyr’s Think About Things.

Now, the song has managed to chart inside the UK Top 40 without being performed in Rotterdam – because it’s gone viral on TikTok.

The track is up to No34 on the tally, from its entry at No43 last week.

For reference, no *actual* Eurovision winner in the last few years has penetrated the top flight in this country: Arcade by last year’s champ Duncan Laurence tapped out at No67; Toy by Netta peaked at No49; that boring Portuguese fella reached No97; and Jamala’s 1944 didn’t register at all.

Mans Zelmerlow’s 2015 winner Heroes was the last song to pierce our rankings; peaking at No11.

Ooh, and while we’re talking about the charts, Lady Gaga is at the summit for the sixth time, courtesy of Rain On Me, which is just generally excellent news.
