Steps tease new album as Michelle Visage video drops: ‘It explores brand new sounds’

Steps have announced a whole new album, due for release later this year.

The news coincides with the video premiere for What The Future Holds featuring Michelle Visage (see that below), and the upcoming LP – What The Future Holds Pt 2 – sounds like it’ll be classic Steps; even reuniting the writing team who put together the likes of One For Sorrow and Deeper Shade of Blue.

It’s out on September 10, and Faye Tozer said in a statement: “While lockdown has been really tough, we were fortunate enough to use the time to record a load of brand-new songs for you all! What originally started as a deluxe version of the album has now become a full new record.”

Claire Richards added: “We see What The Future Holds Pt. 2 as the perfect companion piece to the original album. The new record is classic Steps but also explores some brand-new sounds.”

Of said sounds, Ian ‘H’ Watkins continued: “Some of our favourites include Take Me For A Ride which has a proper 80s vibe (written by Mark Topham and Karl Twigg, who co-wrote One For Sorrow, Stomp and Deeper Shade Of Blue and is their first joint song in nearly two decades) and A Hundred Years of Winter, which is an icy electronic anthem written by our friend, the brilliant songwriter Darren Hayes from Savage Garden.”

Lee Latchford-Evans chimed in: “There’s also ‘Living In A Lie’ which reunites us with Thomas G:Son who wrote Something In Your Eyes, which was a huge fan favourite on Part 1 of the album, and brings classic Steps pop drama and key changes.

“Another of my favourites is Trouble & Love, which was written by Fiona Bevan and Carl Ryden who were behind our 2017 comeback single Scared of the Dark.”

The September release means the album will be out by the time they (hopefully) head out on tour at the end of the year, accompanied by Sophie Ellis-Bextor. Tracklisting below.
