Utter legend Nadine Coyle has reflected on Girls Aloud‘s incredible Tangled Up Tour opening, as part of a chat with Sink The Pink.
The 2008 show opened with the five band members suspended in mid-air, backed by an intense choral soundtrack that segued into Sexy! No No No.
It’s frequently referenced as one of the best tour openings of all time (by me, anyway), and Nadine said it had massive impact every night because – in the days when social media wasn’t quite so prominent – people didn’t know it was coming.
‘Because of the way we were lit, we were backlit, so for the first time, the entire audience were lit up and it was just our silhouettes,’ she said. ‘We were in darkness but we could see all of your faces, it was amazing.
‘There was no spoilers that were able to get around, so people were shocked every night.
‘But that was one of the best openings, being able to see the whole crowd.’
She was also asked about the band’s upcoming 20th anniversary at the end of 2022, but said the health of Sarah Harding remains the priority.
The chat was recorded before Sarah went public with the news that doctors told her last Christmas was likely her final one.
‘I would love to be like, ‘yes! This [reunion tour] is what we’re doing,’ Nadine said.
‘But at the minute it’s very much thinking about Sarah. It’s a really unfortunate time for her.’
