Megan McKenna flies to iTunes No1 with first single since X Factor Celebrity win

Megan McKenna is sitting pretty at the top of the iTunes chart in the UK with her first single since winning the celebrity edition of The X Factor in 2019.

The track, This, was written by Megan alongside Amy Wadge and Alex Stacey; and has wasted no time in becoming the best-selling song of the last 24 hours by this particular metric.

Of course, iTunes sales are extremely low compared to what they were a few years ago, and Digital Sales Data estimates that This has ‘only’ sold a few hundred copies so far. But the publicity of that chart-topper could help drum up support on streaming services too; which wouldn’t be a bad thing considering it’s not on Spotify’s New Music Friday UK playlist.

Megan’s no stranger to iTunes success: in 2017 her song High Heeled Shoes was selling well, and that translated to a No43 peak on the Official Singles Chart.

She released a cover of It Must Have Been Love after winning X Factor; which hit No40 on the sales-only chart but didn’t enter the overall Top 100.

She signed to Simon Cowell’s Syco label after that victory but, obviously, Syco ceased to exist last year – so it’s good to see that she’s still putting music out regardless.
