Daily Bop: Put It In A Love Song – Alicia Keys feat. Beyoncé

The song with perhaps the most famous music video to never be released, Put It In A Love Song had all the ingredients it needed to be a world-conquering smash: a massive beat, an unforgettable “GOTTA WORK IT OUT!” hook towards the end, and two A-list artists (Alicia Keys and Beyoncé) who were both very much on a commercial hot streak.

For one reason or another, though, its arrival as a single from Keys’ almighty The Element Of Freedom album was somewhat quieter than expected, and it never bothered the chart in the UK or the Hot 100 in the US. The reception from critics wasn’t across-the-board positive either (The Washington Post for one called it “oddly mechanical”) but I specifically remember getting my basic white gay LIFE to it at university at the turn of the decade, so in my eyes it remains a bona-fide underrated classic.

Written and produced by Keys with Kaseem ‘Swiss Beatz’ Dean (whom she married that same year), it has 11 million streams on Spotify – and if she and Bey ever wanted to team up again and have another go at producing a truly enormous duet, I wouldn’t be mad.

And if not, RELEASE THE VIDEO!!!
