The memes, the jokes, and the SHEER EARWORMERY of UK Hun? from last week’s instalment of RuPaul’s Drag Race UK is translating into chart success.
Over the weekend, the United Kingdolls‘ version of the original track had strong success on both iTunes and Spotify, and as a result it’s now looking tentatively good for a Top 40 placement in the end-of-week bestseller list in a few days’ time.
In today’s midweek update, they’re at No25, according to the Official Charts Company.
That puts them on juuuust about the same footing as the the Season One cast’s Break Up Bye Bye in 2019. That track, powered mainly by the Frock Destroyers, was at No24 midweek and went on to finish at No35.
So if United Kingdolls can keep up similar momentum for the next few days, they too could be Top 40 material come the final rundown Friday evening. Which is actually quite bonkers when you consider that not even the winners of, say, The Voice can get a Top 40 hit these days.
For now, the queens are outpacing the likes of Rita Ora and Imanbek, who start at No33 with Big (that will be an improvement on her 2020 single How To Be Lonely, if it holds); and P!nk, whose collab with her daughter is looking at a No38 arrival.
Further up, Dua Lipa is No20 midweek with We’re Good, and Taylor Swift‘s new version of Love Story is No4. Lil Tjay and 6LACK, meanwhile, are projected to oust Olivia Rodrigo from No1.
Drag Race UK continues on Thursday with Gemma Collins playing Snatch Game.
