Now I don’t know about anyone else, but – Slow aside – I feel like I always sleep on Kylie Minogue‘s Body Language era; distracted perhaps by all the sparkle and confetti of its predecessors Fever and Light Years. But it slaps! And you overlook this delicious little single in particular at your own peril.
The second cut from the record, this fits right in with the kind of ‘hip-pop’ sound that, say, Timbaland had worked wonders with for Justin Timberlake. This one’s written by Johnny Douglas and Karen Poole, and produced by the former – who by this point had also worked with George Michael (including on Outside), 911, All Saints and Tina Turner.
What I love most about it is the drama nestled within the production: the gothic choir, the stabs of high-pitched strings, the little vocoder-filtered flourishes from Kylie in the background… and of course, it’s all happening underneath lyrics that have her hornier than ever, despite the voice in her head telling her to “think before you go”.
The track peaked at No5 in the UK and No4 in Australia; and finished 2004 as the former’s 54th best-selling song. It’s often overlooked when it comes to highlighting Kylie’s very best work, but I guess that’s what happens when you have a repertoire as fucking mighty as hers, right?
