The United Kingdolls of RuPaul’s Drag Race UK have already had an astronomical 177,943 streams on Spotify, up to end-of-play Friday. Queens of pop!
With 93,129 of those streams coming from the UK on that day alone, the daily charts on the streaming service have ranked the Tayce, Bimini Bon Boulash, A’Whora and Lawrence Chaney banger as the country’s 63rd most listened-to song.
That’s ahead of new singles by P!nk (No177), Rita Ora (No69), Kings of Leon (>200) and Birdy (>200) to name a few.
Not to make this feel a bit Popstars: The Rivals, but it also put them substantially ahead of Bananadrama: their version of UK Hun has had ‘only’ 16,973 Spotify streams worldwide so far, and does not appear in the service’s UK Daily Top 200.
They are still kicking around on iTunes at time of writing, though; in the bottom half of the Top 100.
The United Kingdolls have been doing extremely well by that metric too – and they were still No1 on Saturday. Today (Sunday) they’ve slipped to No2 as Andra Day’s Rise Up benefits from being nailed by Joss Stone on The Masked Singer.
At this rate the queens could well find themselves in the Official Charts Company’s First Look midweek update this evening – and actually, considering both versions are credited as ‘Cast of RuPaul’s Drag Race, Season 2’, I wonder if the figures for the two versions will be combined.
Sales and streams up until midnight on Thursday will determine whether or not they register in the final weekly charts, announced on Friday.
For comparison, the season one cast – led by Frock Destroyers – peaked at No34 with Break Up Bye Bye in 2019.
Meanwhile, Drag Race UK continues on Thursday with Gemma Collins swinging by for Snatch Game.
