There have been a LOT of tweets about Britney Spears since the documentary

More than one million tweets about Britney Spears have been posted since the New York Times Presents documentary aired in the US last Friday, it has been reported.

Framing Britney Spears looks back on society and the media’s treatment of the star up to the point at which she was placed under a conservatorship in 2008, then spends a bit of time at the end talking about the situation as it stands now.

Of the one million tweets, almost a quarter of a million included the #FreeBritney hashtag; and it seems the conversation hit its peak on Tuesday when the star’s boyfriend Sam Asghari spoke out against her father, Jamie Spears – very much the villain of the piece.

Celebrity support has come from everyone from Olly Alexander to Meghan McCain; Bette Midler to Kacey Musgraves… and the doc hasn’t even had much of an airing overseas yet.

Critics have been generally impressed by the piece, but this on Dazed also warrants a quick read.
