It’s A Sin ratings are extremely pleasing

It’s A Sin feels like one of the first big EVENT shows of 2021, especially amongst The Gays (though full disclosure, I’ve only just started The Pembrokeshire Murders… I digress) – and that buzz was encouragingly reflected in the ratings last night.

Overnight figures are, as I’m sure you know by now, much less significant than they used to be: every bugger streams on-demand nowadays, so it’ll be the consolidated numbers (which factor in catch-up and such-like) further down the line that paint the most accurate picture. But for now, it’s certainly off to a fabulous start.

Channel 4 have announced that the average viewership last night was 1.9 million – equating to 10.7% of the live-TV-viewing audience at the time (it was up against Would I Lie To You? on BBC One, The Investigation on BBC Two and Endeavour on ITV). The most obvious comparison feels like Russell T Davies’ last gay venture for Channel 4 – Cucumber – which arrived to 1.2 million and a 5.5% share in 2015.

More impressively, It’s A Sin captivated 12.2% of TV-watching 16-34-year-olds – the channel’s best for a drama launch in three years.

The rest of the series is streaming on All4 now, so expect the live overnight ratings to dwindle from next week onwards – but hopefully the overall consolidated numbers will still be as strong as they deserve to be.

In related news, I would take a bullet for Jill.
