Ellie Goulding is apparently dropping an all-new, post-Brightest Blue single before the month’s end.

Replying to a follower on Instagram asking about new music, she said: “Well, what do we all have to lose… end of January.”

And that, it seems, is that.

Brightest Blue was low-key one of the best albums of 2021; and I say “low-key” not because it, er, was a number one smash, but because absolutely nobody appeared to be talking about it once a week or two had passed from its release.

Does her new music follow the same introspective, less hook-focussed trajectory; or is she back to giving radio playlisters something to chew on? We’ll just have to wait and see.
