Playlisted 2020, weeks 23 and 24: Do you think Syco regret ‘losing faith’ in Ella Henderson yet?

So, there was no post last week because much of the release schedule was halted in line with #TheShowMustBePaused, and it felt like there were more pressing things to worry about than me picking through what little was released. I did listen to the highlights though, and… well, to be honest, there’s only one song I wanted to rollover anyway, so it’s at the bottom of this post.

But first to this week’s crop – and, as ever, everything’s been added to the rolling 2020 playlist here.

Ella Henderson – Take Care Of You: Remember when Syco apparently “lost faith” in Ella? Wonder how they’re feeling now she’s top of the Spotify NMF playlist with a Justin Tranter and Julia Michaels co-write… While Take Care Of You is very clearly designed to be a playlist-friendly summer banger, it’s a hugely likeable little bop that – most importantly – gives Ella a decent shot at the big hit single she deserves.

Aluna feat. SG Lewis – Warrior: Loads of us – myself included – are extremely guilty of sleeping of Aluna, and it must stop!!! Body Pump, her track earlier this year, is a big tune, as is this. I hope it gets plenty of radio playlist space over the coming weeks.

Kiesza – Love Me With Your Lie: Kiesza has been ON ONE this year! All Of The Feelings and Crave were both 10s, and while LMWYL isn’t quite as addictive, it’s still an extremely strong slice of pop. Her triumphant run continues!

Leah Kate – Fuck Up The Friendship: This slick, bass-heavy track feels extremely “on trend”, and it could sound excellent over socially-distanced park meet-ups this summer.

Benjamin Ingrosso – Shampoo: Now here’s a head-scratcher: do I genuinely like Shampoo, or do I just really fancy Benjamin? Maybe it’s a little from column A, a little from column B! And I’m at peace with that!

And the only thing I’ll rollover from last week…

Nadia Rose – Too Bad: Here’s another one that’s going to sound great over the summer – Nadia proves once again why she should be extremely famous with this super-catchy, sharply-written track with big ‘repeat one’ potential.
