RuPaul’s Drag Race UK is definitely returning in 2020 – because the first season has had gargantuan ratings.
The iPlayer-only show has had a total of 6.5 million views across its five episodes to date – not too shabby at all considering it doesn’t have a traditional broadcaster.
“I want to thank the BBC and all our fans for their overwhelming support of RuPaul’s Drag Race UK,” Ru said in a statement, put out at midnight.
“This season’s queens proved that Britain’s Got Charisma Uniqueness Nerve and Talent and I want to see more!
“Here’s to another season of love, laughter and light!”
Fiona Campbell, Controller of BBC Three, added: “I’m delighted that BBC Three will be the home for series two of Drag Race UK.
“Every single queen for series one has brought something different to the table and I’ve loved watching and getting to know them.
“The show is a huge hit for us and we’re very much looking forward to unleashing another series for our audience to tuck into!”
This first season has been the most exciting run of Drag Race for years, and I hope next year the team are trusted with more offbeat choices for lip sync songs, guest judges and Snatch Game characters. A more diverse line-up of queens also feels essential.
Oh, and Kathy Burke was offered a guest spot on season one but couldn’t make it due to scheduling. MAKE IT HAPPEN!!
