Here’s something that perfectly combines my love for Drag Race and for The Charts: Break Up Bye Bye from last week’s RuPaul’s Drag Race UK could very well appear in the UK Top 40 at the end of this week.
The song – which is available in two versions: one from the Frock Destroyers (Blu Hydrangea, Baga Chipz, Divina De Campo), one from Filth Harmony (The Vivienne, Cheryl Hole, Crystal) – is at No24 in the midweeks; outperforming newish music from Camila Cabello, Coldplay and Niall Horan at this moment in time.
Most of its success is down to the Frock Destroyers’ version: they made it as high as No2 on iTunes over the weekend (they’re still at No4 this morning) and, as things stand on Spotify, have racked up over five times more streams than Filth Harmony.
It’s worth noting though that Break Up Bye Bye’s momentum is going in the wrong way: it was in the Top 20 in the first update over the weekend and had slipped to 24 by yesterday, so whether it’ll still be in the Top 40 when this week’s final official chart is published on Friday will be a close one.
But in any case……… what a time to be alive.
Dua Lipa, meanwhile, is challenging for No1.
