Selena Gomez finally has a US No1 hit – 11 years after her debut

Some nice news for you: Selena Gomez has finally won her first ever US Billboard Hot 100 number one song.

Lose You To Love Me has lifted 15-1 in its second week, arriving eleven years and three months after Tell Me Something I Don’t Know made it as far as No58 back in August 2008.

Selena’s previous PB on this chart was No5; achieved by Good For You and Same Old Love from the Revival era.

Lose You To Love Me has scored career-highs in other territories too, including the UK: its entry at No3 bests her previous peak of No7 for Kygo team-up It Ain’t Me in 2017, and Selena Gomez and the Scene’s Naturally in 2010.

Interestingly, it’s only Julia Michaels and Justin Tranter’s second Hot 100 chart-topper. Despite all the excellent music they’ve co-written over recent years, the only other one to go all the way was Justin Bieber’s Sorry.

Lose You To Love Me is also producers Mattman and Robin’s first No1.

I’ve come around to this song, you know: at first I wasn’t sure if I liked the whole thing as much as I liked Selena’s emotional delivery, but over the last couple of weeks I’ve consistently played it and YAKNOW WHAT, good for her.

Can’t say I’m as sold on Look At Her Now, but you can’t win ’em all. Bring on the album.
