Unless something fucking incredible is released in these last few weeks of 2019, Motivation will be the newest track in this 100 Songs of the Decade collection. Not only is it an absolute goddamn bop, it also made Normani‘s proper arrival after 18 months of foundation-laying (not including the Fifth Harmony stint) one of the most all-out exciting popstar launches of recent times.

Energetic, fun and irresistibly summery, it’s one of those pop music bullseyes that at once feels reassuringly familiar and like a breath of fresh air. The video, too, is a complete masterpiece, and Normani is very much now the one to watch over the next ten years.

  • I’ll be writing about my favourite 100 pop songs of the decade; one a day for the last 100 days of 2019. They’re in no particular order, except the Top 10 – which will (obviously) come in late December.
