100 songs of the decade: Jealousy – Will Young

100 songs of the decade: Jealousy – Will Young

Written by: Will Young and Kish Mauve
Produced by: Richard X
Album: Echoes
UK release: August 2011
UK chart peak: 5

This song does not feel anywhere near as old as it is. It came out over eight years ago! Why is time?!

Will Young is a consistently under-rated bop machine, and Jealousy is his best ever work. A mid-tempo dance-pop heartbreaker, the emotional vocals are absolutely stunning and Richard X’s production perfectly straddles the line between ‘contemporary relevance’ and ‘Radio 2’.

The song is brilliant, the album was brilliant, Will’s discography generally is brilliant… he has, very quietly, been not only one of the best boypop hitmakers of this decade, but the 21st Century in general.

  • I’ll be writing about my favourite 100 pop songs of the decade; one a day for the last 100 days of 2019. They’re in no particular order, except the Top 10 – which will (obviously) come in late December.
