100 songs of the decade: Call My Name – Cheryl

100 songs of the decade: Call My Name – Cheryl

Written by: Calvin Harris
Produced by: Calvin Harris
Album: A Million Lights
UK release: June 2012
UK chart peak: 1

This ~sound is a great area for Cheryl to play in because it allows her to give us PERFORMANCE. The Voice UK rendition of this, swan dive and all, was a huge moment; and the video got her third solo era off to a blistering start.

Written and produced by Calvin Harris, and allegedly offered to Rita Ora first, it’s EDM-pop at its finest: unrelenting, with a simple hook, and some “woah-oh-oh-oh” bits at the end for good measure. Just don’t mention the Stand Up To Cancer incident.

  • I’ll be writing about my favourite 100 pop songs of the decade; one a day for the last 100 days of 2019. They’re in no particular order, except the Top 10 – which will (obviously) come in late December.
